Sixty London Receieves Smart LED Upgrade

Sixty London is the iconic building set to become the workspace for over a thousand employees of a major online retailer. The curved glass and steel structure, extending over 14 floors above ground, is designed to BREEAM Excellent standard, a reflection of its focus on sustainability. This dedication to energy efficiency is evident in the selection of the highest quality in lighting and controls from Luxonic Lighting.

The landmark building, designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF), is located at an important intersection within the City, at 60 Holborn Viaduct. It is striking in its architecture; its dynamic form is a response to the sightlines of St Paul’s Cathedral, whilst the expanse of curtain walling making up the façade allows it to be illuminated at night. Luxonic has provided over 2,500 bespoke fittings throughout the 20,000m2 of prime office space, contributing to the strong visual identity of Sixty London.

The Luxonic luminaires designed specifically for the project, were selected for the excellent energy ratings they are able to achieve. The incorporation of DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) technology, a protocol for lighting controls and dimming, enables effective energy management, and provides the building with the tools for reducing its energy costs. Luxonic also provided DALI addressable emergency inverters to integrate with the system.

The sleek form of the recessed luminaires is in keeping with the contemporary, flexible and open-plan office design at Sixty London. They integrate effortlessly into the SAS international ceiling and were supplied for direct installation, complete with lamps and cables. They provide a uniform, evenly distributed light throughout the space, ensuring appropriate illuminance levels for the working environment. A logarithmic dimming behaviour matches the response of the human eye making the users comfort paramount.

Senior Associate Principal, Luuc Schutte, at KPF commented on Luxonic’s involvement in the project, “ Luxonic were recommended as alternative suppliers for the general office lighting of Sixty London. They did not disappoint. We found them to be very receptive to our design ideas and keen to demonstrate that our high expectations for built quality could be met. The final installation was very well received and we are now considering the use of the same luminaires for a number of UK developments”.

Luxonic Lighting pioneers interior lighting design technologies whilst considering the life cycle of a product from its concept through to its end-of-life. Luxonic’s sustainable approach ‘Eco-Design’ is an effective environmental management system that maintains performance and productivity whilst ensuring orientation and safety for the user. It allows customers and companies to purchase and use Luxonic products in an equally sustainable way. At Sixty London this commitment to the environment contributes to the project’s overall goal of sustainability, and helps to enhance the business’ green credentials through the high efficiency of every fitting.
