Ed Huibers, Marketing & Sales Director, Luminous Carpets™ wrote the following blog post.
Entering your lobby, your office building, your theater… the first impression is crucial for the overall experience for a guest, customers and even your own employees. An aesthetically pleasing, inspirational and comfortable environment are the basic ingredients for this. To enhance and even personalize this experience we believe the relevant information, at the right place and time can make the difference.
To enable this, we have invented Luminous Carpets™ which gives you the opportunity to provide this personal touch without infringing the design. The seamless integrated LED luminaires are hidden underneath the special carpet creating a highly effective medium with flexible and dynamic content. If it is on, it is highly visible, and if you have nothing to share, it is not there.

Luminous Carpets™ can be used to share relevant information for your visitor or employees, but also can easily show company-names, the name of your guest or a personalized message.
The solution is the result of a cooperation between Desso (Tarkett Group) and Philips Lighting. The patented solution consist of specially designed LED units, controls, software, and a very special carpet. The carpet is based on the EcoBase™ products Desso created earlier. Every layer of this product has been analyzed and optimized to increase the light transmission. The result is a cradle to cradle product which has exactly the same performance as a normal Desso EcoBase™ carpet. The range consists of a number of colors and structures and will be extended in the coming years.
The LED units are specially designed to endure the use in the floor. Walking over it, spilling coffee, cleaning, this will not affect the lifetime or the performance. The LED units are connected to a control system which, when connected to the network, can be used from any PC in that network, without the hassle of installing software. We wanted to make Luminous Carpets™ simple to specify and simple to use. The units can be linked both vertically as horizontally, you can create your own size!
Together with Tandus Centiva(Tarkett Group) we are bringing this unique solution to the North-American market. The solution has been thoroughly tested in different projects in Europe, and now we are ready to address the number one carpet market. We can support designers configuring a solution, help on installation and customize the software to exactly fit the wishes you have. There are a number of standard configurations created to make specifying just as simple as using our solution.
Products are ready for shipment after the launch at LightFair 2015.
