PR Lighting Ltd of Guangzhou, China (which supplies intelligent stage lighting, architectural lighting and LED lighting products) said recently that it had chosen Golden DRAGON LEDs from Osram Opto Semiconductors for its XLED 590 intelligent wash light.

The high-power stage lighting market is seeking more beneficial alternatives to traditional halogen or high-intensity discharge lighting, and LEDs are increasingly being used for staging events, Osram says. Osram is highlighting its portfolio of LEDs (including OSTAR SMT, Diamond DRAGON and Golden DRAGON Plus LEDs - exhibited at the China PALM Expo for professional audio light music technology in Beijing on 28-31 May), which provide efficiency, high brightness and long lifetime for such a demanding environment. Osram Opto says that its LEDs can provide multiple lighting colors (red, green, blue), allowing greater range and variability in lighting options, and can achieve a greater color range through adjusting the intensity of each LED color group.

The OSTAR SMT LED unites power efficiency and RGB color mixing capabilities in a compact surface mountable package. The Diamond DRAGON is Osram’s brightest single-chip LED, with a comprehensive range of colors. The Golden DRAGON Plus is another alternative for a stage illumination light source. Its long lifetime of more than 50,000 hours (depending on conditions), and its feature of emitting light from the smallest possible source using Osram Opto’s Thinfilm/ThinGaN technologies, enable lighting designers to generate new applications, says the firm. 

“We chose the Diamond DRAGON RGB LEDs for our intelligent wash light because we wanted to offer a high-brightness, long-lifetime solution that meets the needs of the high-power stage lighting market,” says PR Lighting's Steve Tulk chief engineer. “This XLED 590, with Osram’s LED, is the brightest intelligent wash light in the market,” he claims. Light output is greater than a conventional 1200W wash light. PR Lighting exhibited more than 20 Diamond DRAGON RGB LED-based wash lights at the China PALM Expo.
