The 10th Strategies in Light 2009 — Lighting the Future with LEDs

The 10th annual business-oriented conference and exhibition on high-brightness LEDs will be held on February 18-20, 2009 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California by Strategies Unlimited and PennWell Corporation.

Last year Strategies in Light attracted over 1500 participants from North America, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Australia – 28 countries in all. For its 10th anniversary, the tenth Strategies in Light conference features a separate lighting track aimed at lighting designers, specifiers and architects. The focus of this special track will be to address the many issues associated with the use of LEDs in lighting that are of concern to the lighting community.

In conjunction with the lighting track, the conference will offer two new tutorials on LEDs:
    - LED Fundamentals for Lighting Designers and Architects
    - Specifying LED Lighting Fixtures: What Lighting Designers and Specifiers Need to Know

These tutorials will be in addition to pre-conference workshops on standards for solid-state lighting, intellectual property, LED test and measurement, and selecting drivers for LEDs. Featured speakers for the lighting track include James Benya, Principal, Benya Lighting Design and Michael Siminovitch, Director, California Lighting Technology Center.

Besides, Strategies in Light 2009 will provide insight into the rapidly developing markets for LED lighting, backlights for LED displays, and automotive headlamps, as well as other major trends in applications, industry structure, government policies, markets, products, and technologies that will affect the industry’s future.

Vindra Bhandarkar, Senior Market Research Analyst at Strategies Unlimited will summarize the results of the company’s latest market research on LED lighting fixtures. More featured speakers for the conference’s HB LED market track will include: Michael Cavallo, Domain Director, Lighting for the Clinton Climate Initiative; Frank Bistervels, Senior Director, IP Licensing, Philips Intellectual Property and Standards; and Dan Coyne, Managing Director, Investment Banking, Canaccord Adams.

It’s noticed that Robert Steele, Conference Chair and Director of Optoelectronics Programs, Strategies Unlimited, will provide his annual update on the market for HB LEDs, along with a five-year forecast.

The companies and organizations contributing to the HB LED market track include Sandia National Laboratories, the California Energy Commission, Philips Lumileds Lighting, Bridgelux, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Osram Opto Semiconductors, Finelite, Cree, CAO Group, LEDON Lighting, Nichia, China Solid-State Lighting Alliance, Republic ITS, AU Optronics, Exclara, RPC Photonics, Instrument Systems, and Obducat Technologies.
