Foxconn Denies the Rumor of Micro LED R&D Team Dismiss

Foxconn reportedly dismissed its Micro LED R&D team in August 2019, according to the report of a Chinese online media, Smart Display. The company denied the adjustment of its teams and claimed that the dismissed team does not belong to the Foxconn Group.

Foxconn has been an active player in Micro LED technology development. The company acquired Micro LED transfer technology developer eLux and chip producer Epileds, aiming to integrate internal resources including AOT, Innolux and Sharp to build up a Micro LED chain. Industry resources also noted that the company has set at least four to five teams to develop Micro LED display for wearable and mobile applications. In April 2019, Foxconn even revealed that it might include Micro LED production lines in its Wisconsin sites.

Nevertheless, according to the report of the Chinese online media, a Micro LED team under the Foxconn Group was dismissed due to lack of funds. Since the team did not progress as expected and could not raise more money for the project, the Micro LED R&D team was released.

Foxconn announced that the dismissed team does not directly relate to the Foxconn Group and thus the company did not comment on the operation of the Micro LED team.
