【CES 2020】ITRI Showcases Advanced Micro LED Modular Display

At CES 2020, Micro LED and Mini LED still lead trends of the display industry. LEDinside joined CES this year and was invited to take a first look of Taiwan ITRI’s latest RGB Micro LED display.

At the booth of ITRI, the institute presented the world first Micro LED modular display made by directly transferring Micro LED chips onto PCB substrate via its proprietary mass transfer technology. Since PCB substrates are usually uneven, it is challenging to directly put RGB Micro LED chips that are under 100μm onto it. However, ITRI has overcome the difficulties and achieved a full color RGB Micro LED display with PCB substrate.

Unlike its previous demonstration, ITRI’s Micro LED modular display shown at CES 2020 reach an even higher degree of completion. The 30*30 center meter Micro LED display was composed of 15 Micro LED modules, delivering a resolution of 480*480 pixel. An extra optical film was added to diminish reflectivity so that the display can present extraordinary contrast despite that the light source in the showroom comes from everywhere.

ITRI expects to develop Micro LED displays in different sizes and shape via splicing the modules to fit in all kind of applications such as signage, TV walls, gaming monitors and automotive displays, meeting the increasing demands of the niche market. The Taiwan-based institute also hope to expand partnerships through licensing to accelerate Micro LED development.
