Photonics Festival in Taiwan 2011 Series II: International Major Manufacturers Invest in Mature LED Plant Growth Light Market

Aside from regular LED lighting applications, the spotlight of Photonics Festival in Taiwan 2011 mostly shone on LED plant growth light. After the establishment of Philips’s plant factory, Osram has also invested in the LED plant growth light market. In addition, the establishment of plant factory is one of the focuses of China’s 12th five-year plan; the Japanese government established 100 plant factories after the strike of earthquake. Manufacturers of Taiwan, the second largest LED manufacturing country in the world, are surely taking initiatives in gaining a big chunk of the huge market prospects. SIMON-TECH, ALT and Fong Kai, which are increasing their resource invested in the plant growth light market, exhibited their impressive results at this year’s Photonics Festival.

Different wavelengths affect the growth of plant differently: the photosynthesis of plant can be accelerated by increasing the portion of blue light; the sprout and blossom of plant can be controlled by altering the portion of red light; the growth of plant can be oppressed by projecting ultraviolet. Differing from natural light, LED light has a singular spectrum, which serves as an absolute advantage when it comes to plant-growth-related applications and attracts interests from global major manufacturers.

For instance, Osram, for the first time in company history, exhibited its new LED product (656nm-red light, 455nm-blue light, 6500K-white light) specifically designed for plant growth applications. In light of the fact that Taiwan is the pioneer in the global LED industry and agriculture industry, Osram chose Taiwan as the stage to unveil its latest product in plant growth lighting sector in hope of attaining the huge prospects of LED plant growth market in Asia.

Fong Kai showcased its new IP66 50W LED plant growth light with 32 high-power red lights and 4 high-power blue lights, which weighed 3kgs and could be adopted in agriculture, gardening and greenhouse lighting.

Moreover, with the aim of breaking into the household lighting market, ALT exhibited 35W and 70W plant growth lights with G19 light bulbs, which received great success in the Japanese market.

Besides LED plant growth light, SIMON-TECH has been cooperating with National Chung Hsing University and co-founded a research farm where they conducted an experiment to prove LED light can strongly influence the growth of plants.

SIMON-TECH also proposed a new concept of plant factory which is involved with: 1. The design of LED plant light. 2. The arrangement and establishment of greenhouse lighting. 3. Three-dimension structure of recipient. 4. A circulation system of nutrient liquid. 5. Monitor system of environment temperature. 6. Plant factory. 7. The integration of energy-saving system applications. 8.argicultural technology. SIMON-TECH has been dedicating to LED lighting for many years and takes the LED plant light industry to a whole new level.
