General information

Over recent years, technical innovation of solid-state ligthing (SSL) such as LED and OLED has been rapidly progressed. LED and OLED are now attracting great attention from the lighting industry as new light sources, replacing traditional incandescent and fluorescent lamps.

Those new SSL technologies are characterised by long-lived, energy-saving and high color purity, and have a variety of potential applications such as lighting in living spaces and offices, decorative illumination, car lighting, traffic light and indirect lighting. Experts say that the market size of LED and OLED lighting will significantly grow in the years ahead. In fact, some of the Japanese leading companies such as Panasonic Electric Works (Matsushita), Toshiba Lighting & Technology, Hitachi Lighting and Sharp have already broken into the LED lighting industry, focusing on expanding their business in this promising market.

Under such circumstances, the needs of the venue where all LED/OLED lighting technologies gather at one time have increased year by year. In this way, LIGHTING JAPAN (LED/OLED Lighting Technology Expo) has been finally launched for 2009 in Japan.
