[Insight] Global Tech Giants Accelerate Investment, AR Glasses Shipments Projected to Reach 32.1 Million Units by 2030, Says TrendForce

TrendForce’s latest report, “2025 Near-Eye Display Market Outlook and Technology Analysis,” reveals that the AR glasses market is gaining momentum in 2025 as international brands unveil prototypes and Meta prepares to launch its Celeste AR glasses. Combined with falling OLEDoS product prices, global AR shipments are expected to reach 600,000 units in 2025.

In the longer term, strong growth in notification-style AR glasses will be further supported by the maturation of advanced full-color AR technology. Shipments are projected to surge to 32.1 million units by 2030. While China currently dominates AR shipments, the entry of major players like Meta and Google is expected to reduce China’s share to 50.2% by 2030.

TrendForce notes that AI integration is shaping consumer expectations for AR applications while also driving the formation of market-wide specification standards. For example, brands are demanding that optical engines consume less than 300 mW of power, occupy less than 1 cc of volume, and weigh under 3g. Although such requirements add complexity to already challenging technologies, they also foster convergence in specifications.

At present, mainstream LEDoS and LCoS panel sizes range from 0.13 to 0.18 inches, with pixel densities above 5,500 PPI. LEDoS resolutions typically fall between 640x480 and 720x720, while most LCoS panels are at 720x720. Looking ahead, CMOS substrate dimensions and designs are also expected to standardize as cost control becomes a greater priority.

While standardization may limit brand differentiation and product iteration, it enables economies of scale and cost reduction. This not only sharpens product positioning and pricing strategies but also helps AR glasses reach more attractive price points, spurring wider adoption and a virtuous cycle of growth.

Meanwhile, active investment from major players such as Meta and Google is accelerating supply chain development. With the participation of suppliers like LUMUS, Goertek, JBD, Xreal, and Omnivision, the AR ecosystem is expected to mature rapidly, laying a solid foundation for the industry to achieve tens of millions of units in annual shipments by 2030.
