Clean, Green EfficientLights LED Technology from Walgreens

Recently, PowerSecure International, Inc. announced that Walgreens will purchase the Company’s state-of-the-art green EfficientLights LED lighting technology for refrigerated cases installed in the majority of their new store openings in 2009.

Walgreens is an industry leader in its adoption of LED technology as part of a broad on-going focus on energy efficiency, and their investment in EfficientLights technology will reduce their refrigerated cases’ lighting energy use by a substantial 70 percent.

The new technology provides the added benefit of reducing ongoing maintenance costs associated with traditional fluorescent lighting, extends the life of the lighting solution a minimum of five-fold, and eliminates the disposal of fluorescent bulbs, which contain mercury. For the stores expected to be equipped in 2009, the EfficientLights green technology will save 45 million kilowatt hours over the next 10 years, which is equivalent to removing the CO2 emissions from the electricity use of over 4,000 homes.

PowerSecure’s breakthrough EfficientLights technology leads the industry with a lighting design that provides the best quality of lighting in the marketplace, enhances consumers’ shopping experience, and delivers the strongest return on investment due to its superior energy efficiency.

Sidney Hinton, CEO of PowerSecure, said, "We are very pleased to announce this new award from Walgreens. We are excited about the opportunity to deliver a superior product that will generate a very real, and very ‘green’, return on investment for their stores.” Mr. Hinton continued, “Our go-to-market strategy for our EfficientLights technology is simple: we install the lighting in real world conditions, evaluate the results, and prove our value proposition. We are grateful to Walgreens for giving us the opportunity to prove our technology on an expanded basis in 2009. We look forward to continuing to demonstrate our value to Walgreens to provide even more opportunities for us to serve them in the future.”
