The latest notebook from Toshiba, the Portege R500-SP209C, includes a number of proposed "world's firsts", including a 128 GB solid-state drive, transreflective LED display, and 7 mm DVD SuperMulti drive.
The notebook is equipped with a 12.1" transreflective LED backlit display that Toshiba says is "ideal for usage in virtually any type of light condition." In addition to shutting off the backlight while outdoors to help conserve battery power, the R500 also contains other energy-efficient components. It meets Energy Star 4.0 requirements with the ability to save up to 130 kWh of electricity and prevent up to 200 lbs. of greenhouse gas emissions. As with every Toshiba notebook, this model is also RoHS compliant, conforming to international environmental standards by reducing the use of lead, mercury, and other hazardous substances.
Running on the Intel Core 2 Duo processor U7600, the R500 has 1 GB of DDR2 memory, and comes with Windows Vista Business already installed. EasyGuard technology provides protection against shocks to the hard drive; as well as spills on the keyboard.
Toshiba's new Portege R500-SP209C is currently available for an MSLP of $3,299.
