Philips Sponsors Lovelight – the Event that Puts Lighting at the Heart of Architecture

Royal Philips Electronics announced it has sponsored “LoveLight” held in October this year at the Royal College of Physicians in central London. This unique event which is initiated by the Professional Lighting Designers’ Association and Emap, is the first of its kind and aims to put lighting at the heart of architecture.

The event provided the ideal platform to discuss how LEDs have truly revolutionized the way architects and designers think about light. In all, some 260 architects and lighting designers attended throughout the day, the biggest gathering for such an event, and were treated a host of interactive discussions from eminent figures from the spheres of architecture, lighting and design including lighting designers Jonathan Speirs and Rogier van der Heide and architects Eva Jiricna, Laurie Chetwood and Magali Thomson.

Participants also enjoyed an exterior lighting workshop using Philips LED luminaires to transform the gardens surrounding the Royal College of Physicians into a magical display of colour. As Preiss continues, “Of course, the best way to see how lighting as a medium can be used, is to try it for yourself! The workshop was a great way to illustrate in “a hands on approach” just how lighting interacts with different forms and textures from buildings to natural vegetation.”
