Seoul Semiconductor Wins the 2009 EDN Innovation Award

Seoul Semiconductor Co., Ltd. has announced that on November 18th the LCW100Z1 LED for ultra-small lighting fixtures won the award in “Power Device and Module” section selected by EDN, a highly circulated electronics magazine. The award-winning LCW100Z1 is highly recognized for its marketability, economic value, and efficiency.

EDN is a specialized electronics magazine that is well respected and distributed all over Europe, Australia, Japan Asia, and the United States. EDN honors outstanding engineering products and technologies that have a great influence on the electronics industry during a given year. EDN sums up the evaluations of EDN Editors and Engineering Specialists as well as online votes through the EDN Innovation Awards held in the United States and China every year.

The EDN Innovation Awards honors outstanding engineering products and technologies that have a great influence on the electronics industry during a year. This award is all the more significant because it is given to the products suitable for the local region and selected by local Engineering Specialists. By winning the 2009 EDN Innovation Award Seoul Semiconductor has proven its world-class excellence in technical capability of both DC LED lighting products, and the award-winning Acriche product group of AC driven LEDs.

Most of all, the LCW100Z1 is characterized by its small size of 3.5mm x 2.8mm x 1.6 mm, and in contrast to most chip LED products it applies the dome lens to the metal base to maximize luminous efficacy, realizing more than 120 lm/W and improving the heat transfer efficiency, raising the luminous efficacy by more than 20 percent compared to a top view type LED (TOP LED). This patented product is also excellent in terms of price per lumen as it raises the luminance of chip LED devices via its high efficacy and current handling capability, which is double the typical chip LED. The product comes in pure, warm and natural white color temperatures (CCT) and is capable of replacing existing top view type LEDs. One major application is replacing fluorescent tubes and light bulbs along with task lighting products. The LCW100Z1 can also be used in a variety of lighting applications such as signage/display, portable, refrigeration, decorative fixtures, etc. In a time when the expansion of the power LED market is somewhat delayed due to pricing issues, a wide diversity of lighting products can be made with the LCW100Z1 by innovative lighting companies contributing to the expansion of the LED lighting market, and saving energy on a global scale.
