Benefiting from of LED TV, Everlight optimistic about brighter outlook for LED in 2010

Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd., the leading LED packaging company in Taiwan, Robert Yeh (chairman of the firm) is quite optimistic about a brighter market outlook for LED in 2010 than 2009.

Last year, Samsung and LG`s active moves to promote LED-backlit LCD TVs have helped to fuel the global market for LED chips, creating new niches for the LED industry. In addition to LCD TVs, Yeh indicates that high-brightness LEDs will also be vastly used as backlights for monitors and notebook PCs, and light source in lightings in 2010. For example, he added, LED-backlit monitors are expected to contribute more than 20% to the total in 2010, mainly because costs of LEDs have been declining to a level almost equal to those of traditional CCFLs, so that producers are more willing to apply the eco-friendly light source as backlights in the products.

At present, the firm turns out about 2 billion SMD LEDs per month, with 700 million units applied as the light source in backlights for display panels, and plans to boost the output by 50% at least in 2010 according to customer`s demand, Yeh emphasizes. In the meantime, to actually seize the market boom, Everlight has stepped up output expansion and gradually procured MOCVD equipment. Yeh says that Everlight, enjoying constant influx of contract orders, is very likely to score better sales in the first quarter of 2010 than the fourth quarter of 2009, despite seasonal factors.
