Momentive Performance Materials, Inc., will launch a new series of thermally conductive silicones , which will be used increasing the performance and service life of LEDs and LED assemblies.
The thermally conductive silicones will be offered as the TIA (News - Alert) series of curable thermal gels and adhesives and TIS series of curable thermal compounds.
The TIA thermal gels are liquid-dispensed materials for heat dissipation and are being provided in various thermal conductivity levels, viscosities and curing profiles.
The new gels, named TIA221G and TIA216G, are useful in management of the heat generated by drivers used to regulate voltage, which prolongs the service life of LED light bulbs. These drivers are three-dimensional and typically fit inside a light bulb fixture.
The liquid-dispensed gels in the TIA series fills gaps between the driver and surrounding fixture and is able to cure at either room temperature or by accelerated heat cure to create a soft elastomer. The gels provide the added benefit of absorbing thermal stress due to their softness and also create a thermal path.
Meanwhile, the TIA thermal adhesives, which include TIA250R and TIA600R products, can also be very useful in designs that require mechanical adhesion. These products are available in room-temperature and heat-accelerated cure formulations that support a range of substrates.
The TIS series of thermal compounds is able to cure at room temperature and can be of much use in minimizing thermal resistance in LED lighting assemblies. The series is comprised of thermally conductive compounds that are soft Thermal Interface Materials and offer stress relief for delicate components as well as extremely low oil bleed and volatile contents, providing enhanced stability in high temperature environments.
