Rapid City Makes a Pilot Program on LED Street Lights

According to a Rapid City traffic engineer John Less in America, since changing over to LED traffic lights three years ago, the city has achieved positive results, so it's going to make a pilot program on LED street lights.

The city is using a $49,000 federal grant to replace street lights on Main and St. Joseph streets with two different bulbs to see which one produces the best results.

Main Street will get LED street light fixtures while Saint Joseph will get induction fixtures similar to fluorescent bulbs.

The city will monitor how the lights hold up during severe weather and if they emit as much light as the older high pressure sodium bulbs.
