Washington, D.C. has selected Lighting Science Group's high-performance PROLIFIC series LED street lights for energy saving.
The new light fixtures will be paid for from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds and will begin to be installed in early 2011.The first of the new lights will be installed in alleys across the District, beginning in Wards 7 and 8.
Initially, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has in conjunction with Howard University Transportation Research Center to conduct a study and analysis of LED lighting products from a variety of vendors and manufacturers.
The study involved the evaluation and analyses of photometric readings, fixture life, efficacy, aesthetics, color temperature, dimmability and compatibility with remote monitoring and control systems.
Eventually, DDOT selected Lighting Science Group's PROLIFIC LSR-2 LED fixture to replace the District's existing lights.
