LG taps into Japan's LED TV market to challenge Sharp and Panasonic

South Korea LG Electronic schedules to take at least a 10 per cent share in Japan's LED TV market within three years.

According to the company, ten LCD TV models using LED backlight will be launched in November just in time for the winter holiday season in Asia's second-largest economy. LG's LED TV lineup will range from premium 55-inch TVs equipped with 3D capability to low-end 22-inch models.

It's said that LG overtook Sony in 2009 to become the No. 2 flat-screen TV maker by revenue, only behind Samsung Electronics.

And it estimates that Japan's market for LED-backlit LCD TVs will expand from 4 million to 6.97 million in 2011. The market is dominated by Sharp, which claims more than half of the market, followed by Panasonic. Therefore,LG attempts to challenge them.
