Taiwan Photonics Industry and Technology Development Association (PIDA) has recently predicted that the local LED industry will grow at a moderate pace in 2011.
According to PIDA , the output value of the global LED industry grew an increase of 68 percent from US$9 billion in 2009 to US$15.1 billion in 2010, and the number will further increase by 38 percent to US$20.8 billion in 2011.
Lu Shao-hsu , a PIDA analyst ,pointed out that Taiwan's output value of LED packaging and modules, which rose nearly 60 percent in 2010, is expected to increase only 24 percent in 2011 due to a higher base period comparison.
Deaphne Kuo, another PIDA analyst, also estimated that the global output value of large backlights, including applications for televisions and notebooks may approach US$7.3 billion in 2012 from an estimated US$2.98 billion in 2010.
Furthermore, based on technological improvements and the support of governments ,LED lighting will become another factor driving the entire LED industry around the world, Kuo added.
