Pune based IT company, BMC Software has launched an initiative to " gain by saving" by replacing lighting fixtures in its Pune office facilities with higher efficiency LED lights resulting in over 65% savings in power. These savings have been utilized to donate solar power LED lighting system to a remote village near Sakur in Sangamner taluka of Ahmednagar district.
Tarun Sharma, site leader and vice president of research and development for BMC Software said, "A significant part of the savings made from reduced power bills will be applied to the company's corporate social responsibility projects, wherein BMC Software will purchase and subsequently donate wind and solar based lighting systems to a few small villages that lack power supply from the state electricity board".
BMC Software joined forces with Hanul Technologies to identify 23 households near the Sakur village in Sangamner taluka of Ahmednagar district to launch the first project. The company donated solar powered LED lighting systems to each household and installed street lights in the entire village to give the villagers a 'new life after dusk'.
The systems were installed and formally handed over to Sandip Aher, tehsildar of Sangamner taluka by the BMC Software corporate social responsibility team recently. BMC is targeting to compete the transition of the lamps in its facilities in the next 6 months, so the company can realize immediate savings that can continue to power villages such as Sakur.
