According to a member from the House Committee on Ecology, the House of Representatives would be able to save at least P3 million if all the offices of the 285 lawmakers will switch to using LED products.
Western Samar Representative Mel Senen Sarmiento pointed out that LED lights is not only cost-effective but also contributes in the global effort to reduce carbon emissions.
As a result, the Visayan lawmaker expected politicians and other public officials should "walk the talk" in as far as contributing the smallest amount of initiative to mitigate global warming.
He said that , “LED lights are energy efficient and can last up to 15 years. That means you will not just save on electricity but you will also save yourself from constantly replacing your bulbs. It's a bit more expensive than the ordinary bulbs but in the long term, it is cheaper by a thousand fold if you count the number of bulbs that you have bought during the entire life span of the LED light.”
Sarmineto noted that in many countries, incandescent lighting for homes and offices is no longer available and building regulations insist on new premises being fitted out with LED fixtures and fittings.
