Westland's Annapolis Park subdivision is to replace LED street lightings under the $20,000 remaining in Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant funds approved by the council .
DTE owns the light poles and would replace 31 street light fixtures under a sole source bid. The new lights would be retrofitted onto the existing light poles and save an estimated $2,100 annually.
In 2009, the city received $731,100 in grant funding that was used for energy retrofits at the Mike Modano Ice Arena — the single largest project — the Bailey Recreation Center and the Westland Police Department.
“This will close that grant down. It's a pilot program with the LED lighting in Annapolis Park,” said Mayor William Wild. “It will give us a good chance to look at those lights since they will all be in the same neighborhood.”
