Philips has released its first quarter results for 2011, and LED-based sales played a important role with 27 per cent compared to the first quarter in 2010 - representing 14 per cent of total lighting sales.
LED components accounted for 7 per cent of the lighting division’s total revenues of €7.6 billion - approximately €530 million - over the period, which represents an increase of approximately 50 per cent compared with the previous year.
Philips sales of LED-based lamps and luminaires accounted for approximately €600 million in revenues over the past 12 months. This figure brings sales of LED-related products to approximately €1.1 billion in total.
Aside from that, lighting systems and controls also had a robust quarter with comparable sales growth in the high teens but sales in consumer luminaires remain weak.
