Lextar Becomes Taiwan No.1 LED Industrial Peers in Patent Application

Recently, sources from the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) have informed that Taiwan Lextar is second to none of its LED industrial peers in Taiwan in terms of patent application volume.

Date back to 2011, the company has forwarded 173 patent applications to the office, soaring 381% from 2010. Of the applications 115 were related to inventions.

The application amount indicated that each of the company’s 160 employees filed at least one patent, on average, according to the company’s chairman and general manager, David Su. He noted that the unmatched application volume suggested the company has put aside more resources onto R&D of new processes, technologies and products when the market was losing steam.

Worldwide, the company filed approximately 500 patents covered epi wafer, chip, package, lighting applications, thermo management, electrical scheme, mechanical refinement and optical optimization in 2011, 458% more than it did a year earlier.

Based on these breakthroughs, Su pointed out that R&D of innovative technology and product has been one of the company’s core competences.
