OCI sets off shipping the first sapphire ingot for LED to be supplied to the world's major wafer manufacturers including Taiwanese companies, to take over the global market.
The company had held a ceremony for the commencement of shipment of sapphire ingot for export on March 2 and started to export 6-inch ingot, a high value-added product, as well as 2-inch and 4-inch products to the world's top 5 manufacturers located in Taiwan, China, and Japan.
It’s noted that OCI has adopted an HEM system differentiated from other technologies usually used by the existing market. This technology will upgrade the production in terms of large-diameter product and its production yield.
In addition, OCI has chosen sapphire ingot for the LED lighting system as a next-generation growth engine business in keeping with eco-friendly green growth and started mass production with annual production capacity of 4 million mm at its Jeonju factory beginning the end of February. It has already started to sell to domestic leading companies. OCI seeks to capture 20% share of the global ingot market by 2015 and to emerge as one of the world's top 3 ingot providers.
According to OCI CG Business planning team leader Yang Jae-yong, "After pilot operation at the end of last year, the mass production has been put in place, and the product has passed the sample tests of the world's leading wafer manufacturers. We will focus on 6-inch ingot, a high value-added product, and try to increase consumer satisfaction and secure competitiveness in the global market."
