Win a year’s free electricity* with “Go Green & Win” light bulbs

Making the switch to energy-efficient lighting is now even more attractive with Philips Lighting and Meridian Energy’s “Go Green & Win” promotion, which will see 10 lucky Kiwis win their electricity bill paid for 12 months.*

For a chance to win, consumers need to purchase a Philips Tornado 15W, 20W or 24W Energy Saver bulb in distinctive competition packaging. If the purchased bulb turns green when inserted into a light fitting and switched on, the consumer will win a year’s free electricity* with Meridian Energy,** New Zealand’s largest renewable energy generator. There will also be weekly and monthly prize draws of Philips products for people who register and enter their Tornado bulb’s promotional code online.

“Meridian is committed to helping our customers get more out of their energy dollar. Switching to energy-efficient lighting is one of the easiest ways to achieve this. According to EECA, households can save around $80 a year by simply replacing their four most used light bulbs with energy-efficient bulbs,1” says Bill Highet, Meridian’s General Manager Retail.

As well as helping households reduce their power usage, because energy-efficient lighting lasts longer people can also save on replacement costs.

Philips Tornado Energy Saver bulbs are up to 80% more energy-efficient than incandescent light bulbs and can last up to eight times longer.2 A 20W Tornado CFL uses only 20W of power, while emitting light similar to a traditional 100W incandescent, making them suitable for every room in the house. They are a similar size to traditional light bulbs and provide high-quality white light. Unlike some other Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs), the Tornado bulbs don’t need time to ‘warm-up’ and illuminate rooms instantly when switched on.

"As a global leader in energy efficient lighting, Philips Lighting is pleased to partner with Meridian Energy to promote energy savings in New Zealand households,” says David Procter of Philips Lighting New Zealand.

Philips Tornado Energy Saver bulbs are sold at supermarkets and hardware stores nationwide and retail for $7.99 per bulb.

The “Go Green & Win” competition runs until 30 November 2012.

*Up to the value of $2500 incl GST
** A major prize winner must have a current, valid domestic electricity account with Meridian Energy by the date of prize redemption.
