SmartWatt Energy has made a LED lighting upgrade at a 200,000 square foot facility in Iowa Cold Storage, a premier provider of temperature-controlled warehousing, logistics, and transportation for food products in the Midwestern United States, for saving over $30,000 per year in total lighting costs.
Iowa Cold Storage is committed to providing their customers with convenient and reliable warehousing services, and is now focusing on reducing energy use, lowering energy costs and conserving environmental resources. SmartWatt Energy’s Chicago office staff performed a construction-grade energy audit of the facility, and then engineered an action plan to replace 328 metal halide lighting fixtures with energy-efficient LED lighting. SmartWatt Energy chose LED fixtures for the project because of their superior performance in cold storage facilities.
The new energy efficient lighting will reduce lighting-related energy consumption by 71%, and has led to the equivalent reduction of 577,889 pounds of Carbon Dioxide from the environment. According to EPA estimates, this project will have the same effect on the environment as planting 85 acres of trees or removing 55 vehicles from the road each year.
