Marvell,SHARP Demonstrate Smart Digital LED Lighting System at LFI 2013

Marvell, Sharp and Orama collaborate to provide the first Digital LED Lighting System delivering a full range of the light from nature driving a new wave of LED lighting

Marvell (Nasdaq: MRVL) and Sharp Electronics announced the results of a of a collaboration to develop a  Smart Digital LED Lighting System designed to enable custom-featured solution in lighting automation and control.   The Digital LED Lighting System allows wired and wireless network control, which includes lumens, brightness, CRI and CCT creating a Full Semblance™ White Light System.  The system combines Sharp’s Tiger Zenigata 15W LED and a production down light luminaire design with Orama Inc.’s Smart LED drivers & digital controller, which is based on Marvell’s advanced LED driver ICs and control ICs.

The system lays the foundation for luminaires that can be quickly configured by software control to meet each client’s individual lighting application’s setting. The Marvell and Sharp collaboration brings advanced LED lighting features – including remote access from mobile devices and light automatically optimized for the viewers’ experience for every task to various markets at an affordable price point.

“During the past five years, LED lighting has rapidly proliferated, from commercial buildings to residences and even bridges. Now, there is a new wave of LED innovation on the horizon – intuitive, Smart lighting that truly unleashes the digital control potential of LEDs while providing beautiful, natural light,” said Kishore Manghnani, Vice President of Green Technology Products at Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. “Marvell is proud of our collaboration with Sharp and of our capability to empower fast development of a customized, feature-rich LED luminaires. I believe Marvell’s Smart LED Lighting Platform, a turnkey hardware/software system that OEMs can easily and affordably integrate into products, combined with Sharp’s comprehensive range of solutions, will drive the next enhanced adoption of LED lighting.”

Marvell’s Smart LED Lighting Platform – with its small-sized driver and integrated controller that is easy to install and configure – is designed to enable customized features for cost-effective implementations that leverage the full potential of LED lighting and controls. A key demonstration of this platform’s potential is showcased by the easy customization for Sharp’s Full Semblance Lighting Control, which provides the best viewing experience and ensures that the exact light for each respective task is achieved, regardless of the time of day. Additionally, the platform provides users access to new LED lighting applications, such as remote access, high quality light tuning, mood lighting and scene control.

“This collaboration showcases the next step in LED lighting performance and function,” said Gary Feather, Vice President, LED Lighting at Sharp Electronics. “Sharp currently offers Recessed LED troffers, LED Downlights and PAR Lamps, and will continue to expand the product line to include networked control and automation. Coupled with remote sensors, user awareness, and wireless control, this smart digital LED lighting system will provide users full control in LED lighting.”

Marvell and Sharp will showcase the new Full Semblance White Light Control System in a pair of 1000 lm LED Downlights (2700K-5800K with multiple phosphors) beside a warm white 2700K on one side and a and a cool white 4000K Downlight on the other, powered by Marvell’s Smart LED Lighting Platform (including its 88EM8801, a small, cost-effective LED driver; and the 88MZ100 wireless microcontroller) at LIGHTFAIR International, held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, April 23-25, 2013, in Sharp’s booth, No. 1353.
