GE Evolve LED Streetlights Project in Whitehall

The township of Whitehall, Pennsylvania, has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the installation of LED streetlights for the Peachtree subdivision. This is the township’s second project focused on removing and replacing aging streetlighting infrastructure with energy efficient LED streetlighting. The success of the first installation, which included thirty GE Evolve post top fixtures, encouraged city officials to pursue additional installations. The upcoming project includes the removal of 41 existing poles and fixtures, and the purchase and installation of 41 GE Evolve post top fixtures as well as poles.

"The residents of Whitehall Township who have the new LED streetlights, appreciate the brightness and change from the old high pressure sodium lights," said Jack Meyers, deputy mayor of Whitehall Township. The upcoming project will be financed by township funds which were set aside for streetlight capital programs. Whitehall Township owns and maintains approximately 2,200 streetlights. "We are looking to replace the old streetlights as necessary, and we have found the GE Evolve streetlight to be the most reliable for Whitehall," said Meyers. Currently the town budgets about $350,000 annual for energy, maintenance and capital costs related to streetlighting, however, significant savings are expected as replacements with LED fixtures are made. "Since we only finished the first installation in December and January, it’s too early for us to calculate the exact amount of savings, but we do expect to reduce our costs," said Meyers.

Complete bids must be submitted to Whitehall Township by Wednesday, May 29, 2013. An optional pre-bid meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. However, according to the bid document, attendance at this meeting is highly recommended. The project is scheduled to begin on July 1, 2013.
