The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) of Taiwan announced recently a total of eight cross straight business cooperation conferences will be held this year, including automotive, LED, panel, and telecommunications. The conferences will begin in 2Q14, according to Economic Daily News.
The conferences which began in 2008 was proposed by National Policy Advisor Yin Chi-ming who was the Minister of MOEA at the time, with the intent to increase industry exchange as the relationship between China and Taiwan was restored. The plan was that there would be “exchange within one year, business talks in two, and cooperation in three,”said Yin. This year however marks the sixth year of the plan and those on the outside wonder just how long it will take for the two sides to finish the cooperation plan.
Wu Mingji, the new Director of the Industrial Development Bureau, said that the cooperative plan is to bridge businesses across the strait. Several businesses are already setting up pilot programs in Chinese cities and it is not a good time to halt these operations. However, Wu said he will examine resource distribution, reflect and adjust business cooperation.
