The recently concluded Light+Building trade fair in Frankfurt, Germany has shown the LED sector will become an important momentum to bolster the Malaysian electronics sector, according to an article by Malaysian national news agency Bernama.
A delegation of seven Malaysian manufacturers was led by SME Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp), which is under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) to Frankfurt to network with designers, retailers and architects. Members of the delegation did not display products at the show, however, two private companies IQ Group and Success Electronics and Transformer Manufacturers did.
SME Corp CEO Datuk Hafsah Hashim noted the LED industry has become vital to the electric and electronic sector in Malaysia, and noted the industry still has high growth potential.
Malaysia LED exports remain modest. However, the LED market remains promising as global efforts turn to reducing carbon emission, increasing energy efficiency, and public opinion shifts from nuclear energy to finding renewable energy. Energy efficiency will remain a key to driving the LED industry growth, according to energy experts.
Trends observed at Light+Building 2014 that attracted 2,458 international exhibitors last week included smart lighting, energy management solutions, and emphasized effect of lighting on health, the report noted.
