Toyoda Gosei and Harvatek Sign Silicate-based LEDs License Agreement

Harvatek Corporation (“Harvatek”) and Toyoda Gosei Co. Ltd (“TG”) have voluntarily signed and entered into a License Agreement relating to silicate-based LEDs.

TG, together with Tridonic Jennersdorf GmbH (Austria), Leuchtstoffwerk Breitungen GmbH(Germany), and Litec GbR (Germany) (together “B.O.S.E. Consortium”), owns basic patents relating to a technology for generation of white light using blue LEDs and novel yellow silicate phosphors. Silicate phosphors applied to blue LED chips enable manufacturing of packaged white LEDs with high-accuracy and high-brightness. Primary applications include cell phones, laptops,GPS and other small displays, accounting for high share of today’s global LED market.

In order to make those technologies available to the LED industry, B.O.S.E. Consortium offers two different licensing schemes: a “Device License” for the use of the white LED light technology covering the application of the silicate phosphor to a blue LED and a “Material License” for manufacturing and marketing of the silicate phosphor materials.

TG grants now a Device License to Harvatek, a leading Taiwanese LED company, to apply said patented white LED light technology.

The License Agreement between TG and Harvatek opens up the full potential for Harvatek to manufacture and offer white LEDs using silicate phosphors covered by licensed patents. Through this License Agreement Harvatek joins now to the pool of white LED manufacturers having licensed B.O.S.E. Consortium’s silicate-based white LED patent family.

Harvatek and TG are pleased to announce their concluded License Agreement and look forward to exploit new business opportunities and beneficial future cooperation based on this agreement.

Harvatek Corporation is a Taiwan based SMD LEDs leading manufacturer.

Toyoda Gosei Co. Ltd. is a Japanese pioneer in gallium nitride-based LEDs.
