Agartala, the capital of Tripura State in India, has become the first northeast city in the country to use energy efficient LEDs, according to The Times of India.
The state’s Energy Efficiency Services (EESL) will be responsible for replacing existing luminaires in Agartala with LEDs, said Ashutosh Jindal, state urban development secretary.
Agartala will be the second city in eastern India, since Kolkata to have LED streetlights installed.
EESL and Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) will be signing a MOU, said Jindal. Initially, the EESL will replace lighting systems on VIP Road from Raj Bhawan to Agartala airport.
