Hot Picks of the Week Jan. 5-9

Epistar’s acquisition of TSMC SSL has been confirmed this week. In a joint press release the two companies reveal Epistar will acquire a 94% share in TSMC SSL. There are also a lot of new LED applications at CES 2015 this year. Japanese electronic giant Sony is entering the competition with its audio speaker LED lights and LED display, while auto makers Mercedes-Benz and BMW dazzle the crowd with their advanced lighting solutions. Another Japanese manufacturer Panasonic is working on acquiring larger market shares in the ASEAN region, according to Malaysian newspaper The Star.

LEDinside would also like to congratulate this year's Draper Prize for Engineering awardees, which includes LED pioneers Isamu Akasaki, George Craford, Russell Dupuisl Nick Holonyak, Jr.l and Shuji Nakamura.
