Epistar announced it has granted license to LEEDARSON LIGHTING to use Epistar’s filament patents in its products. Epistar holds key intellectual property regarding the LED filament technology used in making LED filament style lamps. This patent portfolio covers Taiwan, China, U.S., Europe and other territories.
“Leedarson Lighting will be able to expand its business in the European market through this patent licensing, and acquire patent protection for the company products sold in the end market,” said Roger Chu, Director, Research Division, LEDinside.
Deluge of Chinese players in the LED filament bulb market has disrupted market order, pricing, and made it a hotly contended market, he explained.
Following the license patent agreement, Chu projected Leedarson will be able to expand its product applications, and improve product protection in major retail markets.
Leedarson is a major client of Epistar. By acquiring the LED filament patent it can protect its products from patent infringement from competitors, and gain Epistar's support during potential patent lawsuits, said Chu.
As if to back this claim, Epistar stated in its press release: "IP right is crucial to technology development and EPISTAR expects the industry to recognize and respect its importance. To protect its rights and interests of customers, strategic alliance partners and shareholder, Epistar will take action as it is deemed necessary."
