Abu Dhabi LED Upgrade Saves City Close to $ 1M

Abu Dhabi, the capital of UAE has saved nearly US $1 million in energy costs, since rolling out its LED public lighting retrofit initiative, reported Utilities-me.com.

According to Abu Dhabi Municipality (ADM), the lighting upgrades is expected to help the city reduce carbon emissions by 75%, and cut maintenance costs by about 40% to 80%.

City officials confirmed the total gains from the LED lighting upgrades has generated savings equivalent to DH 3.28 million (US $900,000), reported The Gulf News.

A number of projects implemented by the ADM include the installation of LED lighting system on Shaikh Zayed Street. Commissioned evaluations of the studies reveal lighting upgrades has helped the city save 85% annually and reduced the number of streetlights from 1,000 conventional lights to 660 LED streetlights.

Evidence of positive impacts from the LED lighting upgrade can also be seen in reducing total power consumption from 54 to 12 kilowatts and reducing electrical power of lighting fixtures from 477 watts to 108 watts.

Other LED upgrades have also shown significant improvements, including the replacement of traditional lighting with decorative LED lighting on Shaikh Zayed Bridge, where reduced energy consumption by 81% and power consumption from 417 watts to 105 watts. The project has also further reduced electrical power of lighting fixtures from 477 watts to 108 watts.
