Odisha State Government in India Rolls out Subsidized LED Luminaire Project

The Odisha Government will supply energy efficient LED tube lights and ceiling fans at subsidized rates, said state government Energy Secretary Rajesh Verma.

The State Government will soon sign a MoU with the ESL so power consumers can purchase four fans per electricity bill, reported Prayema News 7. The facility is to be launched under the Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for all (UJALA) scheme in April 2016.

The new LED tube light and fan can reduce power consumption by respectively 68% and 50% compared to a normal 40W LED light, said sources.

The tube lights and fans are priced at about half the market price of respectively INR 230 (US $3.39) and INR 1,150, with a three year replacement warranty. At first the products will be available at power distribution companies and post offices.

Verma stated the State Government has distributed 6.6 million LED bulbs as of date, while more than 10 million bulbs will be distributed by March 2017.

It is possible that measures will be taken to provide quality power supply to consumers.
