The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and Ta Yih Industrial announced they will be partnering on automotive OLED taillights, according to an article by United Evening News.
Conventional LED headlights use a point light source, but OLED offers even and uniform light distribution. OLED is also does not emit harmful blue lights that can be damaging to vision, and disrupt circadian rhythms, making it a suitable light source for interior cabin lighting.
OLED lighting might gradually replace in-car lighting, recommended ITRI.
According to the institute’s policy and research center, OLED lighting market value was less than US $100 million in 2015, but is expected to further grow due to the lighting technology’s market penetration in vehicle applications, said Industrial Economics and Knowledge (IEK).
