SemiTek’s Subsidiary to Build A New LED Sapphire Substrate Fab

China-based LED chip supplier SemiTek announced an agreement signed by its wholly-owned subsidiary Yunnan Lanjing Technology and the People’s Government of Hongta District, Yunnan to build a new LED substrate fab for capacity expansion.

The company anticipates to ramp up the capacity for LED sapphire substrate manufacturing in hope to attain a target of 35 million units per year.

SemiTek will shell out around RMB 1 billion for the construction which will start in September for 16 months. The fab will be built at a place owned by Lanjing Technology and expected with a total area of 50,000 square meters.

Lanjing Technology will have become one of the sapphire substrate suppliers with most capacity around the world by the time the new fab begins to operate.
