Changelight Sends Micro LED Samples to Downstream Firms for Testing

As Micro LED still encounters certain technical bottlenecks, some companies are currently focusing on the transition technology Mini LED instead. The squad proactively developing Mini LED applications includes panel giants (Innolux and AUO), LED chip makers (Epistar and Lextar), and LED packaging firms (EVERLIGHT, AOT, and Harvatek).

Red and yellow LED chip giant Changelight has put time and effort into developing Micro LED for quite some time as well.

On March 1, at the investor conference, Changelight expressed that the technology of Mini LED chip for backlighting is relatively mature. Changelight already sent samples to downstream packaging companies and even to end users. Changelight cooperates with the industry chain to solve packaging issues. Some manufacturers develop Mini LED faster than others do. They might be faster in terms of solving those issues.

When it comes to Mini LED display, Changelight's technology of Mini LED chip is almost ready. Changelight sent samples to downstream manufacturers. No major problems have been reported. Changelight collaborates with packaging companies to break through the packaging issues.

Changelight has been very optimistic about Mini LED backlight technology and Mini LED display technology. After June 2018, Mini LED display and Mini LED backlight will reach mass production phase in the applications of TV and smartphone.

About Micro LED, Changelight focuses on chip and mass transfer technologies. The chip technology is already under development. Changelight spent more time discussing with downstream of the industry chain, display manufacturers, and mass transfer manufacturers because Micro LED application requires entire industry chain to work together, especially the mass transfer issue. Team spirit is a must for major breakthroughs of mass transfer technology.

Changelight is optimistic about Micro LED's commercialization. It is uncertain when that will happen but Changelight predicts the timing could be 2H18, 1H19 or 2H19. Changelight expects that giant companies will launch low-cost, commercializable products first.
