Lighting company Tridonic and NMB-Minebea-GmbH, which is part of the MinebeaMitsumi group who manufacture machinery components and electronics devices, have signed a contract to form a strategic partnership. The partnership aims to develop intelligent outdoor lighting solutions for Smart Cities.
Based on Tridonic’s lighting technology and Paradox Engineering’s connectivity platform and applications ecosystem, the partnership aims to provide integrated Smart City services. For this purpose, hardware and software from both partners will be aligned so that they can easily be operated as a single system. The system, which will be based on an open standard and comply with Zhaga/DALI standards, will form a basis for self-commissioning projects as well as for turn-key solutions for cities.

With Smart Urban Network, Paradox Engineering developed a revolutionary connectivity platform and extensive applications ecosystem. This forms the basis for innovative Smart City services and helps cities solve major urban challenges such as Smart Lighting, Smart Parking and Smart Waste. Tridonic, on the other hand, offers intelligent, efficient and safe outdoor lighting solutions ranging from LED modules and drivers to surge protection devices and sensors. Together, the technology partners will be able to market integrated Smart City applications. The solution will be completely standard-based, compliant with Zhaga/DALI standards and thus fully scalable and open for self-commissioning.
“More and more cities are transforming into Smart Cities using data and the Internet of Things to develop internet-based services. Luminaires offer the perfect infrastructure for these services: Sensors can easily be integrated and transmit the necessary data for network-based applications. However, what has made the development of Smart City services difficult in the past is that all the components of such a system need to be matched and communicate with one another. Together with MinebeaMitsumi and our technology Partner Paradox Engineering we will be able to offer integrated Smart City solutions on an open standard”, explained Thomas Ölz, Vice President Product Management Tridonic.
