Autonomous Driving Technology and Smart City Solutions to Materialize the Future at CES 2020

Each year the innovative products and technologies showcased at CES bring us closer to our imaginative future life. This year at the event, LiDAR manufacturers, sensor chip providers, automobile companies and other technology builders are joining force to present solutions for autonomous driving and smart city applications.

Artificial perception provider AEye announced that it has integrated Infineon’s microcontroller into AEye’s iDAR™ platform to ensure a robust, software-definable platform that is functionally safe for automated and autonomous vehicle initiatives. The sensor fusion will be demonstrated at CES 2020 at Infineon and AEye’s booths.

Continental reported the creation of a Smart City Mobility and Transportation Hub integrating Continental’s sensors and intelligent software into the infrastructure. The technology aims to improve traffic flow, reduce pollution and enhance safety. A feature added to the Hub is Continental’s Wrong-Way Driver (WWD) detection system, which warns at-risk drivers in the vicinity of a driver heading the wrong way. The detection system will be showcased at CES 2020 as well.

On Semiconductor will present its latest LiDAR technology featuring long-range and in-vehicle automotive imaging and detection technology at CES this year. The company’s single photon avalanche diode (SPAD) based silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) technology is the detector of choice in the LiDAR industry. Multiple LiDAR sensor manufacturers will showcase products enabled by ON Semiconductor SiPM detectors at CES 2020. Other automotive imaging technology will also be demonstrated including an 8.3MP ADAS automotive image sensor performing in low light and foggy environments in RGB and NIR+ modes, and a 12MP image sensor for driver and occupant monitoring that is intended to address the needs of the emerging robot taxi market.

Seoul Robotics, the Korean LiDAR sensor software provider who secured US$ 5 million funding to expand the market in North America, will exhibit its SENSR software platform at CES in January. The AI enabled perception platform for 3D LiDARs provides accuracy of object detection at minimal computational cost. Customers of Seoul Robotics include European OEMs, Korean corporations and institutions.

LiDAR maker Quanergy unveiled the solid state LiDAR-based Access Control and People Counter products for physical security and smart space applications. Combining its software and LiDAR sensor, Quanergy’s novel solution enables smart applications for retail, stadiums, airports, offices, museums and other public facilities. The company will present its latest LiDAR sensor and demonstrate the people counting solution at CES 2020.
