Osram Reports a Robust Start for Fiscal 1Q20

After a year of ups and downs, Osram announced that it has kicked off its 2020 with slightly grown revenue and profit for the first quarter of its fiscal year.

Osram posted a revenue of EUR 873 million (US$ 960.78 million) with 0.5% on-year growth. Its Adjusted EBITDA increased by 22% YoY to EUR 114 million (US$ 125.46 million). The adjusted EBITDA margin also climbed 2 percentage points to 13%.

Business segment Opto Semiconductors performed stably with revenue amounted EUR 359 million (US$ 395 million). In the segment Digital, revenues climbed by 2.2% to EUR 217 million (US$ 238.78 million) within a one-year period. Adjusted EBITDA reached the break-even point following a loss of minus 10 million euros in the previous year. As for the segment Automotive, revenue increased comparatively by 0.7% to EUR 480 million (US$ 528.18 million).

Osram said that the important sales markets of the company developed economically as expected from October to the end of December in 2019. The German company closed the buyout and was sold to Austrian sensor maker AMS with EUR 4.6 billion (US$ 5 billion) in December 2019. The two companies are still processing the merger and expect to finish it in the summer 0f 2020.
