KT is one of Korea’s leading mobile telecom companies with sales amounting to KRW 24.9 trillion in 2021. It has consistently expanded robot service systems based on digital platforms including AI, big data, and cloud.

Amid mounting interest in distancing in daily life attributed to the COVID-19 crisis, non-face-to-face service-based disinfection robots for minimizing the spread of infectious diseases have recently captured global attention. As a result, keener attention has been paid to violeds, a UV LED disinfection technology solution, featuring high efficiency, a long lifespan, and a compact size, which can be easily applied to robots.
Violeds for KT’s AI disinfection robots is a patented solution developed and massively applied for the first time in the world by Seoul Viosys. It prevents the growth of germs and bacteria with UV LEDs. In February 2022, Seoul Viosys and the Virosis Lab of the Korea University College of Medicine tested violeds technology, obtaining results showing that 99.99% of SARS-CoV-2 variants: B.1.1.529 are removed within a second.
A KT AI disinfection robot team member said, “For disinfection robots, capabilities to get rid of germs and viruses are seen as more important than anything else. We have decided to adopt Seoul Viosys’ violeds technology solution officially certified to effectively eliminate variants including delta and omicron for the first time in the world.”

Violeds-based UV LED modules are installed on the bottom of robots. While robots move around, UV LEDs remove up to 99.9% of germs and bacteria on the floor. Considering the travel speed of disinfection robots, Seoul Viosys has optimized the height and distance between its modules. As a result, even when robots pass by in a very short time, they can thoroughly disinfect the area by applying the amount and intensity of light equally. The eco-friendly violeds solution disinfects spaces only with UV rays, without chemicals or heavy metals and thereby not generating ozone.

Violeds technology can be applied for surface disinfection and for air sterilization. Applying violeds technology-based UV LED modules to air conditioning systems will minimize the number of viruses in the air to lower the possibility of infection, thereby enabling a comfortable indoor environment to be maintained.

According to ‘the Impact of Disinfection Robots on COVID-19 and Related Forecasts (2022-2027),’ a report released by Mordor Intelligence, a global market analysis agency, the global disinfection robot market is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 36.4% in size to reach USD 3.31018 billion (KRW 4.0185 trillion) by 2026.

“Amid growing demand and interest in AI-based distancing in daily life, a higher number of customers have shown interest in violeds, a UV LED disinfection technology solution featuring high safety, economic feasibility, and technological prowess. We are now developing a disinfection solution optimized for robots in collaboration with a local disinfection robot manufacturer,” said a Seoul Viosys official. “Violeds technology being applied to diverse solutions will play a pivotal role in preventing infection in multi-use facilities including business offices, private educational institutes, schools, and government offices.”

Seoul Viosys, the world’s number one UV LED company, has actively conducted business in a variety of realms including disinfection robots. Specifically, it successfully applied its violeds technology to the console boxes of Genesis, a global luxury vehicle brand, in 2022, EHC (EHC Global Inc), the biggest elevator solution provider in Canada, Gree, the largest home appliance maker in China, and Hisense & Haier have also adopted the violeds technology solution for escalator handrails, air conditioning systems, and washing machines, respectively.
