SEOUL, Aug. 23, 2022 – Samsung Display will showcase its game-changing 240Hz OLED and QD-OLED display technologies at Gamescom 2022, one of the largest video-game trade events in the world, on August 24-28 in Cologne, Germany.
The company will become the first in the display industry to participate in Gamescom, which is organized by the German Trade Association of Interactive Entertainment Software (BIU or Bundesverband Interaktive Unterhaltungssoftware) and takes place in-person for the first time since 2019.

World’s First 240Hz OLED for Laptops

Under the theme of ‘What’s Next in Gaming Displays’, when inside Samsung Display’s OLED Gaming Experience Zone, booth visitors will be able to play an FPS (first-person shooter) game to compare the performance of the company’s new 240Hz OLED against a conventional display with the same refresh rate. The Samsung 240Hz OLED for laptops offers an excellent response time, in addition to a high refresh rate, which together helps to increase target accuracy in shooting-directed games. Furthermore in the Eye Care Zone, visitors can witness Samsung OLED’s ability to emit significantly less harmful blue light, and view the superiority of Samsung’s ‘True Black’ OLED firsthand in a dark room.

Also at Gamescom 2022, Samsung Display will be presenting Flex Gaming, first unveiled at Display Week 2022. The demo opens with a conventionally-sized smartphone display, which unfolds into a 7.2-inch gaming screen. While the screen can be viewed horizontally or vertically, the demo has been optimized to enhance the gaming experience vertically – with the action displayed on the upper part of a vertical screen, and the controls immediately below.

In another first, Samsung Display will unveil a 13.4-inch round automotive OLED display at Gamescom. With its perfect black color representation and clear, seamless resolution, the 13.4-inch display is expected to establish a new level of viewing excellence for vehicular displays.

Premium QD-OLED for Extremely Fast High-end Gaming

Additionally, Samsung Display will be demonstrating its QD-OLED technologies, which offer superb visual features and capabilities for next-generation gaming displays. Visitors can meander through encounter-experience zones in the booth, where they can enjoy the MMORPG game Black Desert on 34-inch QD-OLED monitors, as well as shooting games combined with 65-inch QD-OLED TVs.
Guests will be able to experience firsthand the excellent image quality of QD-OLED technology, in terms of color, viewing angle, and eye-care safety that sharply reduces harmful blue light. Samsung Display’s QD-OLED panels offer high RGB color accuracy and can clearly display all in-game characters and backgrounds thanks to the outstanding performance of its low-gradation screen. A response time of 0.1ms makes the QD-OLED ten times faster than conventional LCD displays and delivers an outstanding level of quality without the image blurring, often visible when depicting rapid motion in other conventional LCD displays.

“Our self-luminous OLED and QD-OLED displays are setting a new standard in the gaming industry for performance and quality,” according to Samsung Display. “Gamescom provides a perfect opportunity to demonstrate to discerning gamers around the world just how perfectly Samsung OLED and QD-OLED displays are optimized for gaming devices.”

As an added crowd-pleaser, Samsung Display is joining with ‘Black Desert’ game developer Pearl Abyss and PC maker MSI to set up consumer-targeted promotions in conjunction with Gamescom. MSI’s 15.6-inch gaming laptop Raider GE67 HX, the world’s first OLED laptop with a 240Hz refresh rate, will be on display inside Samsung Display’s Gamescom booth. MSI will also hold a standalone gaming event in Cologne, during the first two days of Gamescom, which further highlights the major benefits of OLED: True Black color tones even in shadows; low levels of blue light for safer gameplay; and a wider color gamut for more vibrant imagery.
