AU Optronics (AUO) held a board meeting today (31st) and announced its decision to enter into a production line construction contract with PlayNitride Display Technology, a related party. The contract aims to facilitate the building of 6-inch Micro LED chips at AUO’s Longtan factory, specifically the Carrier production line (COC). The contract, valued at NT$700 million, includes a comprehensive Turnkey Solution.

In the Micro LED production process, the COC production line plays a crucial role, as emphasized by AUO. In light of this, PlayNitride, a leading manufacturer in the Micro LED technology sector, will assist AU Optronics in the construction of the COC production line. This partnership allows AUO to not only have access to the necessary raw materials for Micro LED but also utilize COC to Micro LED technology, enabling the production of internal modules. This advancement significantly enhances production efficiency, improves the product rate, and boosts AUO’s cost competitiveness in Micro LED products. Moreover, it accelerates the mass commercialization of Micro LED.

Since 2012, AUO has invested in Micro LED research and development, continually accumulating in-depth display technology and process capabilities.
