The Uttar Pradesh government is working round-the-clock to develop Ayodhya as the country’s first solar city. In this context, the government has targeted to break the world record for the longest solar street light line. The move aligns with the Union Government’s ‘Smart Cities Mission’ initiative. Currently, Saudi Arabia’s Malham is holding the rank and got the recognition in December 2021.
Recently, Lord’s Mark Industries Private Ltd, a diversified business group, won the contract to set up good number of LED-based smart solar street lighting systems in the temple town. The Ayodhya project is a part of a series of contracts that Lord’s Mark Industries has bagged under the ‘Ayodhya Solar City Program’ by Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), Government of Uttar Pradesh in partnership with Philips. These lights will be installed in a phased manner.

As per the contract valued in crores, Lord’s Mark Industries will manage the designing, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of LED-based smart solar street lights with LiFePO4 battery including a 5-year comprehensive warranty along with operations and maintenance.
Commenting on the development, Sachidanand Upadhyay, Managing Director, of Lord’s Mark Industries Limited said that the project will set an example for deploying solar energy in India. "We are pleased to get the opportunity to install good number of smart solar street lighting in phases at Ayodhya. Our engagement with UPNEDA will demonstrate the effective synergy between the government and public sector in spreading the benefit of solar electrification among the larger population of the country.
