Currently, LED lighting company enLighten Australia has harvested two awards at the NSW Green Globe Awards, marking home-grown technology has a place in Australia’s sustainable future.
The company won both the Energy Award (Energy, Water and Waste Excellence Awards category) as well as the Environmental Innovation Award (Excellence in Leadership and Innovation category) with its recently launched multi-function LED light, the “Chamaeleon”, which is capable of delivering 93 percent energy savings.
The Chamaeleon is a multi-function light for fire stairs, car parks and back of house areas where energy is typically wasted due to lights being left on continuously. The Chamaeleon is fitted with microwave (motion) and PE (light) sensors to ensure that permanent low energy background lighting is available at all times and provides full lighting when a space is occupied.
It’s said that lighting currently accounts for more than 20 per cent of costs in commercial and retail markets. enLighten claims its products can reduce this consumption by over two thirds.
enLighten is also looking at “whole of life” functionality and is designing its lighting products to include component redundancy to further lower the “all-of-life” carbon footprint.
