Osram Opto Semiconductors Teams up with Wavien to Jointly Develop RGB LEDs

Osram Opto Semiconductors is aligned with Wavien Inc. to develop RGB LEDs for pocket projectors and picoprojectors small enough to integrate in cellphones.

Osram's LED technology with the LED light recycling technology of Wavien, a licensor of technologies for enhancing lighting will be combined in the new LEDs.

According to Wavien, its technology recaptures light lost in standard optical systems and claims it can double the optical output of some systems.

By either adding a reflector with an aperture formed to take standard LED packages or by adding a unique imaging light pipe with an aperture, the performance improvement will be achieved.

The dimensions of the apertures, which determine the amount of recycling, and the total size of the reflector or light pipe can be scaled to meet different needs.
