On the evening of December 21, NIO officially launched its flagship luxury sedan, the ET9, at NIO Day 2024, showcasing its latest advancements in intelligent automotive technologies, including smart lighting and in-car display systems.
Intelligent Lighting
The ET9 features intelligent Micro LED pixelated headlights, combined with the AQUILA 2.0 Super Sensing system, enabling precise illumination. The headlights offer intelligent light-tracing carpets, intersection blind-spot alerts, and highlighted lane markings, enhancing nighttime driving safety.
Automotive Displays
The ET9 is equipped with a full-focus AR head-up display system. The front cabin features a 15.6-inch AMOLED central control screen, while rear passengers are provided with a 14.5-inch OLED high-definition display and an 8-inch multifunctional screen. Additionally, a 1.4-meter full-width skyline screen spans the front of the dashboard.
Growing Adoption of Micro LED Automotive Lighting
Headlights, often referred to as the "eyes" of a car, have evolved from traditional halogen and xenon lights to widely adopted LED lights. Now, pixelated lighting technology has emerged as a new favorite, primarily through DLP (digital light processing) and Micro LED systems. Micro LED technology surpasses DLP in brightness, reliability, size, and weight, and offers significant cost optimization potential with mass production. This advancement promises smarter and more customizable lighting experiences.
In addition to the ET9, the Volkswagen Tiguan L Pro, the high-end version of the Touareg, and the Porsche Cayenne have also adopted Micro LED lighting. Additionally, the Buick Wildcat concept car features ultra-thin Micro LED lighting, signaling a promising future for this technology.
